MY BUSINESS PHILOSOPHY
Helping others achieve their dreams of owning their own homes. In 1986, this was the principle that guided my transition from a successful career in advertising and marketing to a more fulfilling career of helping individuals through the complex process of buying or selling a home. Over twenty years later, this philosophy has remained the foundation to the relationships I have developed with my clients. I cultivated a candid and straight-forward approach to this business long before the integrity of the profession depended on it. I look forward to the opportunity of meeting and helping you with your own home desires.
“We were contemplating a major renovation to expand our home versus selling it when we approached Michael Thompson for his consultation. After a lengthy review of our plans, he recommended we not sell our home and expand it as planned. Michael continued to provide consultation throughout the renovation process, looking out for our best interest over his own.”

“My husband and I met Michael at an open house in Upper Rockridge he was showing. He was very knowledgeable and warm, so we saved his contact information and reached out a few months later when we were looking for a real estate agent.
Michael was instantly responsive and fit us into his schedule to view homes a few days after receiving our email. He took us to some great properties and we wound up deciding to make a bid on one that we saw that day.
During the days leading up to making the offer, Michael was very responsive and spent hours on the phone with us, walking us through a couple hundred page disclosure document line by line, as well as answering questions that we had on a Saturday evening.
Although we were outbid and our offer was ultimately not accepted, Michael gave us sound advice and did everything they could to provide excellent service and help us win. We continued to tour homes for a few weeks after the bid was received, and he was always ready to schedule any appointment that we wanted.
We wound up deciding to stay in San Francisco and ended up buying a home in the city with an agent who specialized in SF. When we shared the news with Michael, he was genuinely happy for us and even offered some helpful tips for the contract we had just entered.
Working with Michael was a very positive experience: he knows Upper Rockridge, Piedmont, and the surrounding areas very well; he is friendly and warm and honest; he has good instincts and gives good advice; and is reliable and prompt. I would highly recommend him!”

“My husband and I have now experienced two home purchases and three home sales (two in states other than California). Michael represented us as sellers in the most recent of these transactions, and he was EXCELLENT.
Michael is experienced, knowledgeable, patient, positive, honest, sensitive, thoughtful, prepared, and prompt. He presents a comprehensive, linear plan for successfully selling a home, and covers all details to a very granular level. He also handles all agent aspects of a sale process himself (as opposed to handing pieces off to a “team member”): He personally represented us at all open houses, and was involved in every home inspection, walk-through, and brokers’ open. Michael has a long view of the business and will make recommendations without reservation that aren’t necessarily in his personal best interest–because they are in the clients’ best interest. He has a robust network of connections in the real estate business (ranging from title agents and mortgage brokers to staging companies and home inspectors, among many others) and in our community in general, and was able to bring in terrific additional members of the team it takes to successfully sell a home. Michael is respected and well-liked by his industry peers, which makes working with him (and them) very pleasant. Michael communicates regularly, clearly, and thoroughly.
As a result of working with Michael, we went to market feeling very secure that we had prepared our house to an extremely rigorous degree for any prospective buyer, and that the house was appropriately priced. We had multiple offers and sold for almost 24% over asking.
We highly recommend Michael as an agent!”—Darcy B.
“I was fortunate enough to work a transaction with Michael earlier this month. He was great. As a mortgage broker, it is refreshing to work with an agent that is honest, competent and professional. He represented his clients interests extremely well and was there to help every step of the way. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to purchase or sell in the East Bay.”—Brady T.
“We just closed a successful transaction with Michael at Bay Sotheby’s and it was seamless from the start. Michael is by far one of the best realtors in the East Bay. He came highly recommended by close friends who also worked with him on their recent transaction. Michael has been in the business longer than most agents in the area, so rest assure you’re in great hands when it comes to marketing and selling your house. Michael is very knowledgeable, courteous, personable, and truly a pleasure to work with. The selling process can be complicated and intimidating at times, but Michael has always been there to guide us through each step and provided honest and sound advice when needed. Our overall experience with Michael was A+!”—Nim P.
“We always felt like we were the only clients. It was great, the entire plan was put on paper which helped give us a real nice guideline, because we have such busy hectic lives. Michael brought in an entire team of professionals. They came in, they were friendly, they worked within our busy schedules and they helped us prepare the house very efficiently and effectively on schedule. Our home sold in two weeks!”
